Costa Rica National Parks

Costa Rica Canopy Tours, Zip lining, Horseback riding and Hiking

The rainforest of Costa Rica

Costa Rica nature has always been one of the reasons why tourists keep coming back to this tiny country bordered by Nicaragua and Panama. Despite its size tourists and travelers still consider this country one of the best hosts for tourist vacations and that is because of its abundance in natural diversity. More than a quarter of Costa Rica's total land area consists of natural reserves and conservations, national parks and wildlife refuges.

Costa Rica national parks and rain forest may be the best this country has to offer considering that the Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio is the most visited park which was created back in 1972.  The land area encompasses 682 hectares which makes it the tiniest national park in the country but is reputable for its spectacular beauty.

Despite numerous rainforest in Costa Rica, the Manuel Antonio National Park is among the rain forest vacations that promises a terrific nature adventure for the entire family. The Manual Antonio National Park located in the Puntarenas province along the country's Central Pacific coast is pretty accessible for tourists who came from San Jose, the largest and capital city. This park is also near Jaco, one of the most popular beaches in the country situated north of the Puntarenas province. Also near is the popular town of Quepos which encompasses some superb selection of restaurants, hotels, resorts and the best accommodations.

Most rainforests in Costa Rica have gained its popularity because of the gorgeous beaches, lush rainforests, exquisite coral reefs and diverse exotic species including birds and other animal species. The Manuel Antonio National Park houses some of the best beaches in the country that offers exhilarating water activities including surfing and snorkeling but also outlined with lush forestation.

Another popular Costa Rican rainforests is the Monteverde Cloud Forest which is actually called a cloud forest in Costa Rica because of its location at a much higher altitude. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is considered a very important ecotourism destination in the country. Also located in the Puntarenas province, about is 6 km east of Santa Elena and is a 4 hour drive from San Jose. This reserve is considered one of the most breathtaking and dazzling natural reserves in the entire world.

Consisting eight biological zones, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve covers an area of 10,522 hectares of the Costa Rican rain forest and houses more than 2000 plant and tree species, 100 species of mammals, and 400 bird species and about 1200 species of amphibians and reptiles. Its landscape is a healthy habitat for more than 300 species of orchids and 200 species of fern.

Another popular tourist destination among the Costa Rica rainforest is the Tortuguero National Park which gained its reputation for the best nesting site in Costa Rica. The striking Parque Nacional Tortuguero which is the home of the endangered green turtle rests on the country's Caribbean coast. It protects over 22 miles of beach strip from the end of the river Tortuguero and is the primary nesting spot for leatherback sea turtles, loggerhead sea turtles and hawksbill sea turtles. This park was propped up in 1970 mainly to protect the green turtle population from extinction.

Located in the untamed Osa Peninsula, the Corovado National Park is considered one of the most stunning yet remote parks in the country. It is home to that largest and only tropical primary lowland rain forest in the world. It encompasses an abundance of endangered animal and plant species

Zip lines Costa RIca

Costa Rica Canopy Tours, Zip lining, Horseback riding and Hiking

Zip lines are one of the most popular activities in Costa Rica. The mechanisms used for zip lines are steel cable and platforms which are strongly fastened at various heights in between trees. For those afraid of heights, you might want to rethink this adventure several times before you actually decide to do it. But if it makes you feel better, Costa Rica zip lines are also made out of the highest quality materials which makes the activity all the more secure. It might scare your wits as you glide along its cables but the experience is indeed exhilarating as it is educational. You'll get to go deeper into the country's beautiful rainforests and remote areas.
Costa Rica zip lining was said to have started back in the 1970s. Due to the sudden rise of tourism, many tourists are scrambling over just to experience this adrenaline pumping adventure. Unlike other sports, this activity doesn't require you to learn any special athletic skills just to try it. Once you're ready, everything comes naturally. Just don't let your fear keep you from enjoying the ride! All you need is a sense of adventure and you're good to go. Most of the time, as well, expert tour guides are there to support you and to give you instructions on how to keep yourself from harms way. So it's best to always trust your tour guides since they're professionals and know what they're doing.
The best zip lines in Costa Rica are found in places like San Jose, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde and Arenal. This is not surprising considering that these are just some of the famous places visited mostly by tourists and foreigners. Zip line tours are offered by many local businesses that would allow tourists to experience most of the fun things to do in this great country. It is; however, not advisable for very young children and most of the time only ages 5 and above are allowed to try this tour.
Zip lining in Costa Rica is definitely something that you might want to consider once you've decided to visit this paradise. And of course, don't forget to bring along an insect repellent, extra shirt and pants once you try out this wonderful adventure.

San Jose Costa Rica

Costa Rica Canopy Tours, Zip lining, Horseback riding and Hiking

The Capital of Costa Rica:
San Jose, capital and largest city, has the best Costa Rica tours for most travelers and tourists. This city offers numerous spectacular museums, first class restaurants, and amazing night life venues. Some may think less of this city because of its urban sprawl but nevertheless, they soon found out how this city can be very entertaining especially once you've visited Plaza de la Cultura.

The Jade Museum is one the most visited attractions according to Costa Rica vacation reviews, highlighting the country's century-old artifacts and the world's largest and renowned collection of Pre-Columbian Jade. The Costa Rican Art Museum also known as Museo de Arte Costarricense by the locals, showcases a collection of works by the country's most celebrated artists back in the 19th and 20th centuries. Its presentation is highly impressive because of its rotating shows and sculpture collection. Most of the works are exhibited in all forms of media. The National Museum, also called the Museo Nacional, was founded in 1887 and is situated in the old fort used by the military during the civil war back in 1948. This museum displays the natural history, Pre-Columbian culture as well as history of Costa Rica.

Other exciting Costa Rica tours involve the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum near downtown San Jose. The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum which is part of the Central Bank Museums is an underground cultural center that exhibits the marvelous collection of gold objects that reflect the techniques of the Pre-Columbian people in Costa Rica. The exhibition is divided into two levels: an introductory and area for orientation at the 2nd level of the structure that interprets the evolution of Pre-Columbian cultures. The metallurgy development in Costa Rica, the styles and stages are also featured in this level. The second level which is located at the 3rd level of the structure showcases the diverse uses and meanings of the gold objects. An introductory video is presented in this level before people can view the collection.

Most tourists check out travel agencies in Costa Rica to get the best travel packages only to visit San Jose. The best thing about this city is that most of the tourist destinations are really accessible. Many realized it's best to explore the city on foot. But if travelers decide to travel around outside the city they can opt to go visit the Turu Ba Ri Park considered the best nature and adventure park near San Jose

First time on a canopy zip line tour?

Costa Rica Canopy Tours, Zip lining, Horseback riding and Hiking

My first time on a canopy zip line tour across the tree tops was in Costa Rica. When they strapped me into the harness I grabbed the attendant's shirt and pulled him close with a fierce grip, "I cannot go I have to go the bathroom," I shouted. To his credit, he stayed very calm and said, "that is just the fear lady, once you take off it will go away." I took a couple of deep breaths to calm myself. I was determined not to let my fear of heights spoil my high wire adventure. I did try to change my mind again right at the starting platform, but the guide reassured me that once I took off I would not worry about heights. Then he gave me a bit of advice on how to position my hands and a big shove and I was underway.
Zip line tours are composed of steel cables that are strung at various heights between platforms built into the strongest trees. You go from platform to platform zipping over remote natural areas. From the first to the second platform was a short distance. I was able to zip over easily. This helped me get my confidence up. The next platform seemed half a mile away. The starting attendant was right, I did not worry about how high up I was. The only thing I could focus on was getting to the other side. I surely did not want to be the one that got stuck in the middle and they had to send in someone to rescue me. Survival and finishing were the only things on my mind.
By the time I was heading for the fourth platform, I had really gotten the hang of things. I started to look down more and to really enjoy the ride. I did not see much from up there but the tops of thousands of trees. But I loved speeding over them. The adrenaline rush was intense.
Zip lines tours above the canopy are one of the most popular excursions in Costa Rica. More than a quarter of the country is covered in rainforests. Taking a canopy zip line tour is a fantastic way to get a bird's eye view of the rainforest.
Most of Costa Rica's national parks have canopy operators. Many of these operators have an office in the capital city of San Jose. I signed up for the tour with the concierge at my resort. I advise you to visit the Canopy tours in Turu Ba Ri Park, the superman zip line is unique
This is one of the most adventuresome things I have under done. I was so proud of myself for not giving into my fear. The rewards were a great time, the thrill of victory and a big hug and kiss from my boyfriend who had finished quicker and was waiting for me at the finish line

Turu Ba Ri Park, San Jose Costa Rica

Turu Ba Ri Park, San Jose Costa Rica

By Jennifer McAllister - Costa Rica has many different parks and attractions to offer and is well-known for its canopy tours. I've been living in Costa Rica for almost 5 years and have tried many canopy tours but only one Turubari has truly impressed me and I would highly recommend it.
My experience with at this tour was really great. I had a combination of excitement and safety that allowed me to enjoy the visit to its fullest. All of their tours are great but for me the superman zip line tour is the best!
When you get there your guide will help gear you out and that's where the adventure begins. The Canopy is an exciting tour where you will slide down zip lines over the forest canopy. These guides are helpful and friendly and also very professional and well trained. I went there with my 6 year old son and even he had a great time. Plus the attractions are very well taken care of. I had a great time with them and I'm sure you will too, so enjoy and let me know how it goes.
